About Us

We believe the individual impact of football players cannot be measured by vanity metrics like goals, passes, tackles won or possession. Real team players influence besides their own metrics especially their team members, their opponents and as a final output the game result directly and indirectly. This is what Football GAP is about.

Game Review

Chelsea secured a convincing 3-1 victory over Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park in their Premier League clash on Sunday, 25 January 2026. The result was largely expected given Chelsea's superior form and squad depth, although Crystal Palace put up a spirited fight. The game began with Chelsea asserting their dominance early on. Estêvão opened the scoring in the 34th minute, setting the tone for the visitors. Chelsea continued to control the game, and João Pedro (GAP +2.3%) doubled their lead shortly after halftime in the 50th minute. Enzo Fernández (GAP +1.7%) added a third goal for Chelsea in the 64th minute, effectively sealing the win. Crystal Palace's efforts were hampered by a red card to Adam Wharton in the 72nd minute, which further tilted the balance in Chelsea's favor. Despite being a man down, Crystal Palace managed to score a consolation goal through Chris Richards (GAP +3.5%) in the 88th minute. In terms of tactical adjustments, Crystal Palace made three changes to their lineup, bringing in Ismaïla Sarr (GAP +3.3%), Daniel Muñoz (GAP +4.7%), and Brennan Johnson (GAP +0.3%). These changes were likely influenced by injuries and international duties affecting their squad depth. Chelsea also made three changes, with Benoit Badiashile (GAP +0.8%), Andrey Santos, and Estêvão coming into the starting eleven, possibly as part of a rotation strategy. Chelsea's performance was bolstered by standout displays from Pedro Neto (GAP +5.1%) and Marc Cucurella (GAP +4.7%), who were instrumental in both defense and attack. The victory keeps Chelsea in a strong position in the league, maintaining their momentum as they push for a top-four finish. For Crystal Palace, the defeat highlights the challenges they face in climbing the league table, especially with key players missing due to injuries and suspensions. They will need to regroup quickly to avoid slipping further down the standings.

What is GAP?

What is Plus Minus Goals (G±)?

Plus Minus Goals (G±) is the average goal difference per game while the player was on the pitch. A value above 0 indicates that the team rather wins, a value below 0 means his team concedes more goals than they score when the player is on the pitch. As an example, if the player's team is winning 3:1 the goal difference is +2, if the player's team is loosing 0:1, the goal difference is -1. It is a pure metric which is barely adjusted for circumstances to purely show the goal difference.

What is GAP?

GAP (Game Advantage Percentage) shows the percentage gap between a player and the average league player. It answers the question: How much does a player improve or worsen a team's performance? It is based on high level game data with a focus on the impact on the goal difference (G±) from the last 50 games of a player. Besides that, GAP goes further and considers game context by involving data from the player and all other players who are at the same time on the pitch, no matter if teammates or opponents. Football GAP - the individual metric for team players.
